Where to mail federal income tax return – Form 1040? Taxpayers who will submit their tax returns by mail must send them to the Internal Revenue Service address according to the state of residence.
Before mailing Form 1040 to the Internal Revenue Service, make sure to use US Postal Services. Do not use any other delivery service such as FedEx or UPS as they are considered to be private delivery services which will result in the return of your 1040 back to your address. Use USPS when mailing Form 1040 and use a large enough envelope that will contain all of your tax forms and schedules.
Once your return is prepared, mail your tax return to the mailing address that corresponds to your state of residence and whether or not you’re making a payment with your return.

When will the IRS process my return?
Upon mailing Form 1040 to the Internal Revenue Service, your tax return will be processed in about three to six weeks. If you’re expecting a refund and want to get it as soon as possible, it is highly suggested to file electronically as it takes less time for the IRS to process tax returns.
On average, you can expect to have your refund within two to three weeks after the IRS receives your return for e-filed tax returns. You can see the IRS Refund Schedule 2021 to see how long it takes to receive a tax refund for most filers.
