A known traveler number, or KTN, is a nine-digit number that allows travelers to access expedited security screening at airports. It is issued to members of the TSA PreCheck program, Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI and can be used to identify them at participating immigration and customs locations. The number can be found on the back of the membership card or in a member’s account on the Trusted Traveler website.
Those with TSA PreCheck or Global Entry membership should make sure the number is connected to their airline reservation so they can take advantage of the faster, smoother experience. This can be done by providing it to the airline when making a booking over the phone or online, by adding it to their online frequent flyer account, or by asking their travel agent to do so.
TSA PreCheck KTN Lookup
Known Traveler Number, or KTN, is a 9-digit number that’s assigned when you enroll in a Trusted Traveler Program such as Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. It’s a good idea to keep this number handy as you’ll need to input it into each eligible flight booking to access your member benefits.
To look up your KTN, you can log in to your airline loyalty account and see it on your profile page or the section where you edit your information. You can also enter your Known Traveler Number into the search field on the TSA website to find out if you’re still eligible for the program.
Your KTN will be displayed on your TSA PreCheck boarding pass and it will stay active as long as you’re a member of the program. However, your membership will expire after five years, so you’ll need to renew it if you want to continue enjoying your member benefits. You can do this by logging in to your TSA PreCheck account or visiting GOV+, where we make government applications easy.
TSA PreCheck Number for DoD Personnel
If you’re a DoD Servicemember, you’re automatically enrolled in the TSA PreCheck program. To take advantage of it, simply add your DoD ID number to your Defense Travel System profile [PDF, 2 pages] and any leisure travel reservations or personal frequent flyer program profiles. Then, when you book a flight, be sure to enter your KTN in the designated box. The airline will verify the KTN in TSA’s Secure Flight System and include a TSA PreCheck indicator on your boarding pass.
