Cigna Dental Plans

Cigna is a popular insurance provider with an extensive network of dental providers. It functions similarly to a medical PPO, where the dentists in your network accept a fee schedule negotiated with the insurance company.

Cigna Dental Plans preventive, basic, and major restorative care services. Covered procedures include exams, X-rays, and cleanings for adults. For children, they also include fluoride treatments and sealants. However, the company does not cover dental implants and dentures. The company’s DPPO networks provide easy access to reputable dentists. These dentists offer discounted rates to customers and can help them save money on routine visits.

All network dentists have met credentialing standards based on national standards. They have also agreed to accept negotiated fee amounts from Cigna. Cigna offers a “balance bill” payment option for out-of-network providers, but the cost of these visits may be higher than those for in-network providers.

Cigna’s Medicare Advantage plans feature dental benefits, and some include prescription drug coverage. They are available to individuals enrolled in Medicare and those who do not have Medicare but would like to get the benefits of a Medicare Advantage plan. These plans have a monthly premium; deductibles and copayments vary by plan type. They also have limitations, such as frequency limits and waiting periods.

Cigna Dental Preventive Plan & Plus

Cigna Dental Preventive plan is a low-deductible dental insurance plan that covers 100% of routine preventive services, including exams and cleanings, every six months for covered members up to age 13. This plan also includes an oral exam and routine X-rays for adults 13 and over. The Cigna Dental Preventive Plus plan is available for an average monthly premium of $19.

Dental Choice 2 plan

Dental Choice 2 plan

Other Cigna dental plans, such as the Dental 1500 and the Dental Choice 2 plan, have a higher monthly rate, but you can choose any dentist without paying a copay or deductible. These plans also include coverage for routine X-rays, dental exams, and space maintainers for children up to age 13.

Some plans have annual or lifetime caps on the amount of money the plan will pay each year for dental services. These caps are intended to encourage patients to seek out the most cost-effective care for their needs. However, some patients may find these limits frustrating and need to spend more out-of-pocket money to meet these caps.

Cigna Dental 1500

Cigna offers three low-deductible dental insurance plans. The first is the Cigna Dental 1500, which covers preventive services such as oral exams and cleanings with no deductible or copay. Basic restorative procedures such as dental fillings and simple tooth extractions are covered at 80% of the contracted fee after the plan deductible is met. Major restorative procedures such as dentures and bridges are covered at 50% after the plan deductible is met.
