Form 4562, Depreciation and Amortization, is the Internal Revenue Service form generally used for claiming the depreciation and amortization deduction. It’s also used for making an election under Section 179 to expense a certain property. Additionally, taxpayers can use Form 4562 to provide information on the business or investment use of vehicles and other listed properties.

Essentially, file Form 4562 with your federal income tax return to claim the depreciation deduction or make a Section 179 election.

For the 2024 tax year, for which you’ll file a federal income tax return for in 2024, fill out the 4562 and attach it to your return.
